Pacific Emerald Dove:

UK Status: Non resident, introduced to tropical houses, zoos and parks.

Habitat: This bird is found in tropical rain forests, and other dense damp forests, mangroves, farmland and coastal heaths This is quite a common bird in parts of Australia, and  New Guinea and other Islands off the Australian coast. They mainly eat seed and fruits, and spend long periods on the ground looking for fallen fruit and seed. If disturbed they have a tendency to run away on the ground, it's not often they take flight.

Breeding: Nests are scantily built platforms of sticks and twigs, in trees up to sixteen feet off the ground. Two creamy coloured eggs are laid in each clutch, in spring or early summer.

Comment: It's worth noting that there are two species of Emerald Dove. These two species are very similar looking, they are the Pacific Emerald Dove (Chalcophaps longirostris), and the Asian Emerald Dove (Chalcophaps indica).
